Strata Florida Monks' Walk
Route #32
|
Strata Florida Abbey was founded in the twelfth century, and this walk
follows paths once used by the monks who lived there. The route starts
two miles from the abbey, which can be visited before or after the walk.
The Short Option is mostly on delightful grassy paths and tracks
across open country, and along the shores of two of the Teifi Pools.
The Standard Route additionally includes some remote hill terrain,
and a detour to two mountain lakes; it has some rough boggy stretches,
but these are short and interspersed with easier going. The final section
of both routes follows part of the Cambrian Way long distance path.
The
Cistercian Way is a new long-distance footpath and pilgrimage
route round Wales, and the website contains much interesting information
about Strata Florida, and about the Cistercian monks.
