Parson's Bridge Walk
Route #18
|
The first Parson's Bridge was said to have been built to allow the priest who
officiated at the two small churches of Ysbyty Cynfyn and Ystumtuen to
get more quickly between them; he must have kept fit! Our walk starts
and finishes over the bridge, allowing two chances to admire the spectacular
gorge of the Rheidol. On the way out there is a steep climb out of the
gorge, past an ancient stone circle, through a saddle, and past a lake
to the old lead-mining village of Ystumtuen. The route continues up to
Ystumtuen Common, and then takes a very scenic path along the high ground
before descending to the George Borrow Hotel in Ponterwyd. Another fine,
high path leads above the Rheidol Gorge and back down to Parson's Bridge.
Refreshments George Borrow Hotel, about an hour from the end.
