Hillscape caters for those who feel
that large groups detract from the quietness of the hills, and who prefer
to explore by themselves. We provide maps and our own regularly updated
directions for 40 trails, ranging from 5 to 20 miles in length. Most are
circular, and over a quarter start on footpaths leading straight from the
house; several are suitable for those with little previous experience.
The walking ranges from easy rambling
to strenuous hillwalking, and from exhilarating coast paths to open
mountains and moorland. In between is a varied landscape of wide grassy
ridges with breathtaking views across Wales, and deep valleys hung
with ancient oak woodlands. Our exclusive routes will take you on uncrowded
footpaths to hidden waterfalls, forgotten valleys, little-frequented
summits and the sparkling waters of lonely mountain pools; or along the historic
tracks of monks and drovers into the heart of the Welsh hills. Several of
our walks use stretches of the Cambrian Way long-distance footpath.
For those who prefer something
gentler, we have woodland and forest walks, field paths, and quiet narrow
lanes where wild flowers abound; the historic Hafod Estate, with its
network of eighteenth-century paths, is only 2 miles away. The Mid Wales
countryside is green and peaceful, and has remained relatively free from
the ravages of modern intensive agriculture. Small sheep farms dominate the
landscape, and the pace of life is unhurried.
Whatever your fitness level, you can
earn one of our special Hillscape 100
rucksack badges by completing 100 miles of our trails - there's no time limit!
