Trawsallt has a distinctive large - and ancient - shelter cairn on its 570m (1864') summit, and is easy to recognise from the nearest settlement at Ysbyty Ystwyth, 3 miles to the north-west.
This panorama starts looking north-west over the Hafod estate in the Ystwyth valley. Turning clockwise, just after the last stones on the ground, right of the cairn, you are looking up the green Peiran valley. On the skyline above that is Plynlimon (Pumlumon) and to the left, in the far distance, is Cader Idris. Going clockwise now, Trawsallt's grassy northern spur leads the eye to the plateau of Cefn Croes, across the Ystwyth valley, then further round, the skyline is occupied by Trawsallt's higher neighbour, Lan-du Fawr, a kilometre to the south-east. Turning south now, the wild moorlands of the Cambrian Mountains roll into the distance, with the Carmarthen Fan visible beyond on clear days. The mountains descend to the Teifi valley, then continuing round you can see a small grey area to the left of the cairn: this is mine spoil from Glog-fawr lead mine, near Ysbyty Ystwyth. Moving right again, above the left part of the cairn is the lower Ystwyth valley.
