Situated in the Ystwyth Valley in Mid Wales, just west of
Pontrhydygroes, Blaen-y-ddôl is a cosy, welcoming 3-star country
guest house offering en-suite accommodation in peaceful countryside;
it is also the base for Hillscape self-guided walking holidays. |

Blaen-y-ddôl Ystwyth Valley |
It overlooks a nature reserve, and is well away from the noise of traffic and the intrusions of modern life; instead you will hear buzzards mewing, and the stream which tumbles through our garden. Ravens and the rare red kite can sometimes be seen circling overhead.
Our guest house can accommodate up to 6 guests, and our attractive bedrooms all
have: central heating; an en-suite bathroom or shower-room, with WC; radios; tea
& coffee making facilities; and wonderful views. |

Most guests sleep soundly after all the healthy fresh air and exercise,
but to make sure, we provide high-quality mattresses, and guaranteed
peace and quiet.
We have a large drying room and plenty of space for your walking gear. The garden is available to our guests, and there are good places to swim in the river nearby. There is a dart-board in the barn.

Organic
vegetable garden |
We specialise in appetising and imaginative home-cooking, including
vegetarian if requested, using fresh local and organically-grown produce
whenever possible. Fruit, vegetables, herbs and honey come straight
from our own or our neighbours' garden; as much as possible of our
meat is locally produced and is from traceable sources, as are our
free-range eggs. Bread, cakes and preserves are all home-made, and
we have our own pure spring water. We can cater for many - but not
all - special diets; in particular we cannot accommodate Atkins or
Hay diets. For other special diets, please
check
with us before booking.
|
We offer an extensive breakfast menu, and provide substantial and appetising packed lunches, including drinks. After a day out in the country air, the welcome home to tea and cakes is almost as important to some of our guests as the walks!
We all share the same table for the four-course evening meal; you are welcome to bring your own wine.

Evening Meal |
In the evening
After dinner, most of our guests are content to chat around the fireside
and browse through our illustrated walks books as they choose their next
route. We share the lounge with our guests, so we are always available
in the evenings to offer help and advice if you should need it; or you
may prefer to dip into our large collection of maps, and books covering
all aspects of the outdoor world. Many guests take a late-evening stroll,
perhaps to the top of the hill to watch the sun setting over Cardigan
Bay, or simply to marvel at the vastness of a starlit sky unspoilt by
city lights.
We like our guests to feel completely at home here, and we enjoy the easy friendship with them which stems from a common interest in walking and the countryside. We look forward to welcoming you to Blaen-y-ddôl, and to sharing this beautiful area with you.
